The Great British Card Company (“GBCC”) is a Gloucester-based designer, publisher and distributor of greeting cards. Since starting in the 1980s, GBCC has grown to become a £12m turnover business, employing c. 130 people. It has expanded organically and by acquiring other brands, and its greeting card collections include Paper House, Medici Cards, and The Almanac Gallery.
Following previous work with GBCC acting in the sale of The Almanac Gallery in 2013, the Directors approached Rockworth to advise on the sale of the Company. From a shortlist of potential trade acquirors, Swan Mill Group was selected as the preferred buyer due to its ability to act quickly, the breadth of operational and commercial synergies an acquisition would unlock, and Swan Mill’s comprehensive understanding of the greeting cards market.
David Byk, Chief Executive of Swan Mill said: “This acquisition, four years after Swan Mill acquired Ling Design, is a momentous and very exciting step for us. It brings together two great UK companies which will open up huge possibilities for all the UK regional, national and charity customers as well as our strong export channel.”
