Recruitment is cyclical and we are at the start of another growth phase (this has been apparent over the past few months from listed equities in the recruitment sector recovering significantly from recent lows). Many recruiters have seen a strengthening in demand since 2010 and some of the more significant acquisitions in the sector have opened the door to a resurgence in acquisition activity at a lower level. Training and education remains a key area – seen as both counter-cyclical to the broader economy and also fundamental to the country’s ability to rebuild its balance sheet, in particular we are seeing significant interest in training businesses from overseas trade buyers at the current time. Rockworth has acted as corporate finance advisors to vocational training businesses, higher education providers and consultancy around the design of apprenticeships.
What links the majority of these companies is a reliance on people – these businesses more than any others are all about their staff and in turn their relationships with clients. Typically key metrics when considering a transaction focus on the number and scale of ongoing clients, their stability over time and, where possible, contractual terms.
